Tokyo has a lot of people.
However, there are many “unspoken” rules that allow this mega-metropolis to run efficiently and smoothly.
One of these are for escalators.
The rule is simple…
Stand to the LEFT, Pass on the RIGHT.
Don’t stand on the right or you’ll see a lot of pissed of people behind you who are too polite to tell you to move.
I always feel bad for tourists who don’t know this rule and inadvertently cause a major traffic backup.
Oh yeah, and one more thing…
do the opposite (Stand on the RIGHT, pass on the LEFT) in Osaka.
They like to do everything different.
